Somewhere between Jesus and Hennessy
Originally this post was going to be my 5 Tips for Building Confidence, but as I looked at the finished photos I remembered how I felt while I twirled and whirled around beautiful marble sculptures in a crazy-patterned thrifted dress. I felt a feeling that can only be explained on a spectrum, a spectrum where Hennessy and Jesus are my extremes.
As I was preparing to take photos for this post I thought about Matthew 5:14-16
You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they set it on a lampstand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men...
I wanted this post to be playful and powerful, joyful and light-filled, sacred and sassy! In a lot of ways I wanted to show the fullness of my light and the multi-faceted nature of self-love. Yes, the journey of self-love isn't always fun or light-hearted. Sometimes it hurts and challenges you to transform your very being to become better. However the best version of you waits at the other side of every mountain you have to climb and when that happens: it's a celebration!
When I bought this dress I knew it could only be worn once I felt a sense of joy, only when I felt like the light Jesus speaks of in Matthew combined with the care-free happiness that overcomes me after a few shots of Hennessy. I'm not ashamed to say God is still turning me from some of my proclivities, but Hennessy is definitely to blame for my nights of C-walking, interpretative dancing, and freestyling my night away with friends. So I yearned to embody this bible passage with the unashamed confidence from Hennessy in hopes of letting my light shine and enjoying every second of my thrifted dress.
The lady sculptures became my dance floor and set the tone for this post. There was a certain sense of comfort I felt being surrounded by feminine statues. It was if they were cheering me on and reminding me that confidence comes from within and I'm a fierce feline! When we celebrate our victories along our self-love journey we have to gather confidence to proudly embrace our new selves, joy to revel in the better days ahead, and light to shine before men that they may be inspired by our transformations.
No Hennessy was consumed to attain the finished product; however I definitely played songs in my head as I danced around in the sunlight!
